What kind of PA workplace accidents are more likely to occur?

The kind of jobs Pennsylvania residents do today vary greatly with some involving hardly any physical labor while others are labor-intensive. Some jobs have nominal safety issues that hardly require attention or compliance. Others require consistent important checks and drills as part of the daily routine. Despite these variations, it cannot be said with any surety that accidents occur more frequently at one kind of workplace than another, so the onus is on workers and employers to keep work premises as safe as possible.

Statistically, however, certain kinds of jobs are associated with a greater risk of workplace accidents and, consequently, injuries and fatalities. For instance, transportation-related accidents tend to surpass others, while those involving equipment and tools have the next highest frequency. Looking across industries, workers on construction projects tend to be most vulnerable to fatalities in the workplace, exceeding those in agriculture or fishing or forestry.

Often, employees disregard or ignore following safety practices as a result of fatigue or rushing to finish a task. Employers are required to regulate the amount of work employees perform to allow them sufficient rest and recreation. The adage about all work and no play making the proverbial Jack a dull boy can be seen as a cautionary tale in this regard. Labor studies also focus on factors which contribute to keeping employers alert and vital in carrying out their responsibilities.

In general, employers, as well as employees, need to be proactive in keeping the workplace safe. This may require keeping abreast of the latest legally mandated safety standards and procedures, for which they can consult our blog, which features several articles that discuss workplace issues. Employees may also discuss accident-related topics with legal advisors to understand how to better adopt workplace safety measures and, if necessary, how to bring about any reparative measures that may need to be taken.
