There are many causes of a workplace ladder accident

Every day throughout the country, workers use ladders as a means of completing a variety of tasks. For example, construction workers rely on ladders to access roofs among a number of other responsibilities.

Unfortunately, there are times when a ladder accident occurs. If this happens, it's possible that the person involved, as well as those on the ground below, could be injured.

Here are some of the most common causes of a workplace ladder accident:

-- Using the wrong type of ladder. There is more than one type of ladder, and it's important to use the right one for the right job.

-- Using a damaged ladder. Don't let anyone tell you that a ladder will last forever. Even new ladders can be damaged to the point where it is no longer safe to use.

-- Incorrect use. One of the most common causes of a ladder accident, incorrect use is a major problem in many industries. An example of this would be attempting to climb a ladder with one hand.

-- Incorrect placement. Another common concern, the incorrect placement of a ladder can lead to an accident. For instance, a ladder that is not on firm ground may begin to slip when weight is added to it.

As somebody who uses a ladder on a regular basis, work with your employer to ensure that you're safe at all times.

If you're involved in a ladder accident at work, don't hesitate to receive medical treatment and to report the incident to your company. This will help you in the future when seeking compensation, such as when filing a workers' compensation claim.
