There are many common types of workplace burns

As a worker, it's safe to assume that you're familiar with any dangers you face on a regular basis. While you do your best to avoid trouble, you never know when something bad could happen.

Some of the most common types of workplace burn accidents include:

-- Thermal burns. These burns are caused by liquids, hot objects, explosions and open flames. Regardless of the cause, it's important to put an end to the burning process as soon as possible.

-- Chemical burns. If the eyes or skin comes in contact with any type of strong acid, the end result could be a burn that eats away at the surface (and often the tissue).

-- Electrical burns. In the event an electrical current travels through the body, the result can be a heat burn injury.

Along with the many types of workplace burns, you should also become familiar with the severity of each one. First degree burns are the least serious, with fourth degree burns the most serious.

As an employee, you should do your part in preventing workplace burns. Along with this, you should also expect your employer to provide a safe workplace. This means many things, such as providing initial and ongoing training and ensuring that all employees are familiar with any burn hazards.

If you suffer a workplace burn, the first thing you should do is receive medical treatment. From there, rely on your medical team to help you treat the issue over the long run. Of course, don't hesitate to learn more about your legal rights, such as your right to receive workers' compensation benefits.
