A construction site injury can keep you away from your job

As a construction worker, you know one thing to be true: There is danger lurking around every corner. While you do your best to remain safe, you know that something could happen that causes you to be injured.

There are many common injuries associated with construction sites, including but not limited to slip-and-fall accidents, falls from height, heat stroke, falling objects, burns and lacerations.

In addition to the thousands of people who are injured on construction sites every year, there are nearly 1,000 fatalities.

Despite the fact that both the federal and state governments have regulations for protecting construction workers, this doesn't mean that all accidents can be prevented.

If you find yourself injured on the job, there are a few things you need to do.

First and foremost, receive immediate medical attention. Along with this, don't wait to report the accident and injuries to your employer. The sooner you do this the easier it will be to receive workers' compensation benefits in the future. This makes it more difficult for your employer to say you were injured outside of work.

Depending on your injuries, you may not be able to return to work right away. This is why you will need to make a workers' compensation claim.

If you do so and your claim is approved, you can receive benefits until you're able to return to work. Conversely, if your claim is denied, you'll need to file an appeal. This is a step you don't want to take, but you need to move forward in the appropriate manner to ensure that you get the money you're entitled to receive.
