What are the symptoms of heat stroke?

Do you work outdoors, such as in the construction industry? Do you work indoors in an environment where temperatures can reach dangerous heights?

It's important to be familiar with the many symptoms of heat stroke. This is a serious medical condition that can lead to illness, injury and even death.

The primary symptom of heat stroke is when your body temperature reaches 104 degrees. While fainting is typically the first sign, some of the other symptoms include:

-- Dizziness

-- Throbbing headaches

-- Dry, hot and red skin

-- Lack of sweating

-- Rapid heartbeat

-- Vomiting

-- Nausea

-- Fatigue and muscle weakness

-- Shallow breaching

-- Seizures

-- Behavioral changes, such as disorientation

If you have any reason to believe you are suffering from heat stroke, it's important to stop what you are doing and take immediate action.

For example, move to a cool place and drink enough water to rehydrate your body. Also, don't hesitate to receive professional medical treatment. Since heat stroke can impact your body in many ways, it's always a good idea to be examined by a doctor.

Depending on the seriousness of your heat stroke, you may require long-term treatment. This could keep you out of work for an extended period of time.

It may not be a typical workplace injury, but if you suffer from heat stroke, you may be able to receive workers' compensation benefits. If your claim is denied for any reason, often because an employer states that you did not suffer the illness as the result of your employment, don't wait to file an appeal.
