Marzzacco Niven & Associates

Katherine Niven was chosen by Governor Casey's office in 1990 to be the Chief Counsel for the Pennsylvania Bureau of Workers' Compensation. This meant that she was the top government lawyer in Pennsylvania for workers' compensation and oversaw the enforcement of the workers' compensation laws. Among many other things, she brought criminal actions against insurance companies who had not carried workers' compensation insurance. She was successful in many enforcement actions.

She also drafted legislation for the Secretary of Labor to better protect workers who were injured in Pennsylvania. Subsequently, she became a Pennsylvania workers' compensation judge where she served in Lebanon and Cumberland Counties and also sat in Dauphin County. She presided over thousands of hearings and wrote many decisions. She learned what it takes to be an effective advocate for a workers' compensation client and how to strategize so that a case is successful and the judge is convinced to rule in a worker's favor. Ms. Niven would like to put that experience to work for you. After being a judge for several years, she was motivated to start a law firm that would provide excellent quality service to clients who had been injured on the job or who were unable to work because of either mental or physical problems and needed Social Security Disability benefits.

Strong Advocates For The Injured And Disabled

Ms. Niven's firm is dedicated to being smart, tough, hardworking and successful. We are committed to understanding our clients' needs and representing their interests to the best extent possible. Our motto is to treat our clients as the lawyers in the firm would want to be treated, and we are successful in doing this. Because of Ms. Niven's years as Chief Counsel and workers' compensation judge, she knows both the law and the strategy on how to win a case. Ms. Niven has carefully selected the lawyers and support staff in her office and trained them vigorously so that they can provide the best possible representation for their clients.

Ms. Niven also has personal experience in what it is like to be in an injured worker's family. When she was 5 years old, her father had a very serious industrial accident which involved many years of hospitalization and surgeries. Her family received $79 a week, and that is what she grew up on. This has given Ms. Niven a very distinct insight for knowing what it is like to be in her clients' shoes.

Ms. Niven and the Harrisburg attorneys who work with her are smart, capable, hardworking and tough. We win or settle 98 percent of our workers' compensation cases per year. That is indicative of our success.
