Considerations for Taking and Beginning a Case

Ms. Niven has been chosen to do a 90-minute presentation for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. The topic is “Considerations for Taking and Beginning a Case,” and she will be speaking to lawyers statewide. In developing material for the course, Ms. Niven advocated for attorneys accepting cases regardless of the dollar amount recovery that they may get. She suggests accepting cases if there is legal and medical support and not letting the dollar amount determine whether a case is accepted. This goes against the conventional view of most lawyers who may look at the amount of fees that the case can generate and let that determine whether they accept a case. Ms. Niven believes that all people who are injured should have competent legal representation, regardless of the size of their case.
