Employee injured in Valentine's Day fall dies

A 56-year-old relief manager at the Shrewsbury Giant Food Store was seriously injured after falling off a 12-foot ladder on Valentine's Day. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration is investigating the accident, but didn't have any details.

The man died from the blunt force trauma he suffered in the fall and according to an autopsy, the cause of death was from a blood clot located in his lungs. That clot was caused by the trauma he suffered in the fall.

The accident was not witnessed by anyone. The victim was found lying on the floor. He was taken to York Hospital, where his condition did improve, but then took a turn for the worse.

The president of Giant Food Stores released a statement that said an employee was injured while working his shift and was transported to the hospital. It also said the company is working with authorities, but didn't have any other comment on the accident.

The last fatal work accident in York County, Pennsylvania, was in March 2015, when a spool of wire fell on a 63-year-old man. There were two people who died in 2014 and another in 2013. Five people were killed in workplace accidents in 2008, which was the most deaths on record. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 174 workers lost their lives on the job in 2014, with 25 dying from injuries suffered in a slip, trip or fall.

Workers' compensation provides for the family of workers killed while on the job. This death benefit varies depending on many factors. If a claim for death benefits is denied, a lawyer can help you file an appeal.
