What are the symptoms?
There are many symptoms of carpal tunnel, with some of these more painful and uncomfortable than others. Some of the most common include:
— Tingling in the hands, wrist, and fingers
— Pain in the hand or fingers
Along with the above, some people also experience pain in the area between their elbow and hand.
Most symptoms occur in every finger but the little finger. If you find that this is the case, it’s a sign that you may be suffering from carpal tunnel.
What about treatment?
Many people believe that the only way to deal with carpal tunnel is to wear braces on their wrists and/or simply deal with the pain. This isn’t true. Here are some of the many types of treatment strategies that have been proven effective:
— Stop activities for an extended period of time
— Take breaks between activities
— Ice your wrist for approximately 10 minutes every hour
— Take a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug
While not always the case, there are times when surgery is required to repair carpal tunnel syndrome. This is something to discuss with your doctor, as it’s the most serious treatment option.
When carpal tunnel syndrome is impacting your ability to work, it may be time to see a doctor and to take time off. Since you suffered this injured as a result of your employment, it may be possible to receive workers’ compensation benefits.
Your employer may argue that you were not injured on the job, making it difficult to receive the compensation you deserve. If this happens, you may receive a denial letter that leads to a formal appeal on your part.
