Former Philadelphia waitress gets $3 million for customer assault

While the media has focused its #MeToo coverage largely on celebrities, most women who suffer sexual harassment in the workplace are in less glamorous jobs. Women in service industries often must fight off the advances not only of managers and co-workers, but customers in various stages of intoxication.

How to stay safe from swivel chair injuries at your office

If you have an office job, you probably sit in a swivel chair. If you haven't realized just how convenient and necessary the "swivel" function is, try replacing your swivel chair with a regular, static chair for a day. You probably won't like it one bit and you'll be wishing you had your plush, leather "swiveller" back under your backside in no time.

State legislators pass a new workers' compensation bill

A Republican-backed bill, which would require follow-up evaluations for severely injured workers, was passed by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on Friday, June 22. A requirement for workers to undergo these follow-up exams was determined to be illegal by the state Supreme Court last year.

Can you get benefits to supplement workers' compensation?

If you're unable to work for an extended period because of an illness or injury, one of your top priorities is securing a source of income while you're not receiving a paycheck. Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) from the government and long-term disability (LTD) insurance, which many people have through an employer-sponsored plan, can help you and your family.

Social Security Disability is there to protect people who work for a living in the event that they become permanently disabled. Everyone who has a job pays into Social Security, allowing those who need its support to count on a regular income. In theory, this program is a solution for those who struggle to work due to an illness or injury. In reality, the Social Security Disability program is complicated and difficult to navigate.

Heat-related illnesses are preventable

The sweltering sun and heat can be deadly if proper precautions aren't taken. Employers play a crucial role in ensuring that their workers don't suffer heat-related illnesses and injuries.
