Depending on your profession, you may find that your back pain worsens the second you begin your daily responsibilities.
In the most serious of situations, you could suffer a back injury on the job that requires immediate medical attention (along with plenty of recovery time).
Here are three of the most common causes of back pain at work:
- Repetition: If you repeat the same movement, time and time again, it can eventually lead to a back injury. For example, rotating or twisting your spine has the potential to result in serious pain or discomfort.
- Force: Any time you exert force on your back, you run the risk of suffering an injury. An example of this would be lifting heavy objects.
- Inactivity: Believe it or not, inactivity at work can also cause pain, especially if you remain in the same position for hours on end. This is common among desk workers, as they’re often slumped over their keyboard for a large portion of their day.
There are times when you can deal with back pain at work on your own. For instance, if inactivity is the culprit, stretching a few times an hour can go a long way in helping cure your pain.
Conversely, there are times when back pain at work requires immediate medical attention. If you lift a heavy item and hear a pop, for example, you shouldn’t wait to seek treatment.
