Attorney Ben Salvina Takes on Sex Discrimination Case Against City of Harrisburg

Marzzacco Niven & Associates’ employment lawyer, Ben Salvina, was featured in several media stories covering a recent law suit he filed in federal court on behalf of a client who claims her employer deprived her of promotions several times because she is a woman. The lawsuit, Covey v. City of Harrisburg was filed in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania on November 20, 2024 and alleges that Plaintiff Teresa Covey, a Harrisburg Police Department veteran of 23 years, was discriminated against by her employer, the City of Harrisburg, when the City refused to assign Ms. Covey to the prestigious Criminal Investigation Division within its Police Department when she was promoted to Sergeant because of her sex.

Instead, the City assigned Ms. Covey to a position on third shift with hours that prevented Ms. Covey from providing quality care for her parents. In January 2024, Ms. Covey decided to resign from the City’s Police Department earlier than she had planned so she could continue to care for her loving parents. The suit claims violations of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.

Several media outlets produced and published stories relating to the litigation.  See the links below to some of the actual articles and stories:
