The many reasons why a workers’ compensation claim is denied

If you are injured on the job and unable to return to work, it is a good idea to learn more about your legal rights. This typically means one thing: filing a claim for workers' compensation benefits.

When you file a claim, you hope that you begin to receive payments in the near future. You also expect these payments to continue until you are able to return to work in some capacity.

There are times when a workers' compensation claim is denied. Here are some of the most common reasons for this:

-- You did not report the injury to your employer in a timely manner.

-- You did not file a claim for workers' compensation benefits in a timely manner.

-- Your employer disputes that you were injured on the job.

-- You suffered an injury that does not qualify for compensation.

-- You did not receive medical treatment after your injury.

-- You are unable to prove that you suffered the injury on the job.

Some of these reasons are the direct result of your actions. For example, you need to immediately notify your company of any accident that has caused an injury. You should also file your claim without delay.

If your workers' compensation claim was denied, maybe because your employer states that you were injured outside of work, you should file an appeal. This is easier said than done, but it's the first step to take if you want to have the decision overturned. In the end, what matters most is that you receive the compensation you deserve.
